Dr. M. Sabry Heakal

Chairman

Dr Heakal obtained his Bachelor of Commerce in accounting with Honors from the Faculty of Commerce, University of Cairo and his Master of Science and PhD in accounting with minors in economics and finance from the University of Illinois in the USA. He is a Certified Public Accountant in the United States with 39 years of combined academic, professional and business experience in the United States and the UK.

Dr Heakal was a university professor in Minnesota for 10 years before joining RSM McGladrey as a partner in 1979. He held the position of the Chairman of the Department of Accounting at St Cloud State University in Minnesota for almost all of the ten years. He was a visiting professor at the Universities of Minnesota and Florida.

RSM McGladrey is the fifth largest accounting and consulting firm in the United States and the largest member firm of RSM International. Dr Heakal remained with RSM McGladrey until he relocated to Egypt accepting the position of the Chairman of the Advisors in September 2007.

As a partner of RSM McGladrey, Dr Heakal served clients as the lead partner on a variety of large financial and management consulting engagements, including in the areas of strategy, organization, and assessment of management performance, business process improvement, management information systems, financial feasibility, business valuation and financial dispute resolution. He has sector experience in financial institutions, manufacturing, construction and real estate, retail, wholesale and distribution. He was also the firm’s national coordinator of audit and accounting.

Dr Heakal is the immediate past Chief Executive Officer of RSM International. He held this position at RSM International Headquarters in London from 1995-2005 while remaining a partner and managing director of RSM McGladrey in the United States.

In 2005 he returned to the United States as the Chief Operating Officer of RSM McGladrey’s emerging businesses. These included an investment banking business, a wealth management business; a financial process outsourcing business, a retirement plans administration business and a payroll processing and benefits business. Each business was headed by a president who reported directly to Dr Heakal.

Dr Heakal is a Certified Public Accountant in the United States, having passed the national CPA examination in November 1978 with the third highest score in the United States and the highest score in the State of Minnesota.
