At Transportation Advisors, we’re always looking for ways to serve smarter, faster, and with more precision. That’s where Nicholas Serrano Peña shines.
A Dual Role That Drives Results
As a Technology & Safety Analyst III, Nicholas plays a dual role: he supports our Western region clients by keeping their compliance portals fully aligned with DOT requirements, while also building, optimizing, and refining the internal systems that power our operations.
Whether he’s revamping our order request tracking or enhancing the tools inside MyDOTDocs.com, Nicholas is quietly making everything run smoother—for our team and for the clients we serve every day.
“I take a lot of pride in helping make our systems more efficient and robust,” Nicholas says. “I want our team to be better at what we do—for ourselves and for our clients.”
Raised in the Industry
Nicholas’s connection to the transportation industry runs deep. As the son of Transportation Advisors founder Tom Holden, he spent much of his childhood inside transportation operations—especially at Rose Chauffeured Transportation in Charlotte, NC. He learned early from chauffeurs, shop techs, and office staff what it takes to keep things moving.
He joined Transportation Advisors part-time in 2020 and moved to full-time in 2022. Since then, Nicholas has supported motorcoach companies, chauffeured services, school transportation providers, construction fleets, and even clients focused solely on drug and alcohol testing. His impact spans both client support and internal innovation.
Tech-Driven Compliance Innovation
One of Nicholas’s proudest achievements is the creation of a fully structured internal order request system. Today, every client order is tracked from start to finish—guaranteeing no step is missed and everything is handled efficiently. It’s the kind of invisible infrastructure that creates visible improvement across the board.
“DOT compliance isn’t just about avoiding penalties—it’s about protecting people and public safety,” he explains. “We help companies safeguard their passengers, their drivers, and their operations. That means something.”
On a day-to-day basis, Nicholas supports clients with order results, driver qualification file reviews, digital workflows, and ongoing DOT requirements. His tech-forward mindset and detail-oriented nature help improve both the client experience and the behind-the-scenes processes that make Transportation Advisors a trusted partner.
“Clients can expect respect, responsiveness, and a commitment to getting things done right,” he says. “I’m here to be a dependable voice and a problem-solver.”
Always Curious, Always Improving
Outside of work, Nicholas enjoys teaching himself new programming languages, running his own home server, and diving deep into computer science. When he’s not optimizing a workflow, you’ll likely find him at the movies with his fiancée or exploring new places and cuisines.
“One thing I learned early on in customer service is that ‘I don’t know’ is never a final answer. If I don’t have it, I will find it—and that mindset has stuck with me.”
Tea over coffee. Night owl over early bird. Fully mobile but never out of reach—Nicholas is part of a new wave of tech-forward compliance support professionals.
Like so many in our industry, he’s a second-generation leader in the making—and we couldn’t be more proud.
